WIP Wednesday

WIP Wednesday

Follow the button on the right..

I have managed to fit quite a bit in this week...

I have added more pink pinwheels to my collection, but now have one from every pink piece of fabric I have, Think I need to do at least the same again if no more - so need to go and get a few more fabrics....

So to justify and pay for more fabrics, taking inspiration from everybody else, and whilst piecing my block cushions I thought I would also piece 2 of each colour log cabins, so just need to go though my other colours as I piece my cushions together

My Echo quilt squares are half sewn, half to go!
This is only a small selection

One orange cushion cover almost finished

One Yellow cushion cover almost finished

So in total including those pictures in the week.

I quilt completed 2 cushions completed = 3 complete
2 cushions started + 2 quilts started + 2 quilts ongoing = 6 ongoing

Off to see what you have been up to.

Resolved to Sew 2012

Resolved to Sew 2012

Very Berry Handmade are doing a Massive give-away the subject above.
Fabrics, vouchers and more from some of the best known online fabric stores.

Pop over to her blog to join in, so I though I would make a 'current outstanding list' of those thinks I want to finish, which will get longer as the month goes on...

I resolve to sew a zig-zag quilt, with my rainbow charm fabrics in January
(oh and I had better not forget to sew the button back on my coat that fell off last year)*

I resolve to complete my pinwheels quilt by the end of February
(oh and I really should take up those black trousers up that have been there for 6 months)*

I resolve to finish the 20 pincushions that need stuffing
(oh and I must must re-hem that Laura Ashley skirt in the same pile as the trousers)*

I resolve to make make-up bags soon, I need a new one myself
(oh and I must must shorten my mums dress that I have had for over a year, that's in the same pile as the trousers and the skirt)*

I resolve to make a red and white quilt over the next few months
(oh and shorten the straps on that sun-dress of my mums, that I also have has for over a year, and yep in the same pile as the trousers, skirt & dress)*

*optional

If I did have a chance at winning I would have to pick first Erin McMorris’s Summersault
It would make a super quilt, cushions, totes.....

Two Pillow Cushions finished

Finally got around to finishing 2 strip pieced cushions.
I have been spending far too much time, just playing
My list of things to make is getting longer!
If only we didn't have to earn money to purchase fabric.
If off to Bulgaria on Sunday
To mother-in-laws (without Hubby!!)
Kind of a working holiday, Sunday to Thursday so have 3 days to recover a sofa and 2 armchairs. If worked out cheaper for her to purchase the fabric in Bulgaria, fly me out, and I sew than pay for 20 metres of furnishing fabric over here. Then I get to go horse riding in the mountains when I'm finished! (hence when hubby is not coming).
Mum-in-law and her hubby moved out there when they retired, cheaper to live, get to live in a backward village, grow grapes, and drink home-made wine. The type of lifestyle you wouldn't get here in the UK.
Have been putting off quilting my Nostalgic quilt, but need to spend an hour or so on it to make a start!

Make - Quilted 6 Pointed Star

Follow me in making a 6 pointed star

You could make the star out of one piece of patterned fabric or 2 for alternate points (as mine),
3 types for opposite matching fabric or even 6  for 6 different fabric points.

Each triangle is equal on all sides - using a 60deg angle
Mine were cut from 3 inch strips of fabric.
You will need:
12 white or plain fabric triangles
12 patterned triangles:-
If 2 patterns - x6 triangles of each
If 3 patterns - x4 triangles of each
If 6 patterns - x2 triangles of each

Lay your patterned pieces out to form your star

Next lay your white or plain pieces out

Using the 1/4 inch seam, sew your top row together
Iron as you go otherwise you may twist your back seams
(something I do..)

Using the 1/4 inch seam, sew your 2nd row together

Using the 1/4 inch seam, sew your 3rd row together

Using the 1/4 inch seam, sew your 4th row together

Next sew all your rows and press

You now need to square up your block
I use scraps of fabric larger than the angle needed
as you can see using the rulers

The strips ready to sew
once attached - press and trim

One finished star - this forms part of my red and white quilt I am making,
I am not following a pattern and haven't worked out how big or how many stars I am making
but it will be a large lap or single bed quilt.
My stars are also not perfect but then I'm no a total perfectionist
(you only have to see my sewing room..)

Almost forgot
I used Amy Butler - Lotus in red and Kaffe Fassett Spot Polka Dot in tomato

Happy Saturday

Any UK Sellers?

DROOL!!!!
Half Moon Modern Metro for Moda
I have just purchased a couple of charm packs of this from the US
from Materialgirlchic on Etsy who also has 20%  off all in shop.
but really would like to be able to buy a fat 8th or FQ bundle.
Problem is buying from the US I am limited on how much to purchase at once
Maybe it is the only way to go......buy a couple at a time!

If anybody knows of any UK sellers let me know.

Just purchased this for the

Somewhere Over The Rainbow Swap 2012 ROUND 2

WIP Wednesday

Started piecing my Lotta Jansdotter fabrics together, in 9 square formations.
Couldn't for the life of me tell you what grey this is, but wanted to steer clear of white, for my solid, as I wanted this quilt to not look girlie something that will go even in a bachelor pad (but who am I kidding, what man would buy one - unless I dip into the pink pound in Brighton!)

A few more pinwheels to add to the pink collection, each one will be different, but have now run out on my designer pinks, so a really really BIG shame as I will have to go out and purchase some more designs to add to the stash.....

I am soooooooooo tired tonight no sewing for me (well except for hand binding by strawberries and cream quilt which I quilted last night.. I have been averaging 6 hours sleep a night, problem is around 10pm, I get the urge to spent 1/2 hour on the sewing machine, but 2 hours later I am still playing...
Then a rude awaking at 6am and in work dazed and confused before 8am, leave a 6pm and around we go again.

WIP Wednesday  take a look over at freshlypieced at what everybody else has been up to.

Have a great week to end.

In the making Strawberries & Cream

Going to call this one strawberries and cream

A baby, lap, floor mat should end out about 43" x 43"

The plain squares are a light cream and the others are mix of pinks.

This is quick and easy one on the go.
4 inch squares
9 square x 9 square
total of 81 squares.

All I need now is to back it in some pink fabric and I think I will tram line either side of the joins in a cream thread.

Saturday Stash

I fell in love with this range a while ago and bit the bullet and purchased 10 FQs from

I also purchased grey solid to mix in, don't quite know what to do, keeping it simple blocks or triangles....

I visited a local fabric store today Owl and Sewing Cat

And purchase a couple of reds form Amy Butler Lotus collection, as my red stash is really low, and there just doesn't seem to be mush on the market that doesn't contain snowflakes, or spots which I have, but want to inject florals, abstracts etc, to get a perfect red and white quilt.

I also purchased from them the grey solid and the backing to my Nostalgia quilt in a deep red, burgundy, so will sew that together tomorrow.

Off to sew a few dolls quilts as my Paris Doll kit arrived yesterday and she is sewn and ready for a new photo shoot with a few quilts.

Make - Flannelette Quilting Wall

One of my best buys!

I puchased some months ago a king sized Brushed Cotton Flannelette sheet off Ebay, think it cost me about £6.00.

This is only half a sheet! I have high ceilings and this goes from floor to ceiling!
I staple gunned it to the wall, even sewn pieces stick to it.

Gives you a chance to play around with patterns, and just cover it in colour!!

You will have to excuse the bad lighting, I will try again at the weekend, without flash back - at the moment I do not see my house in daylight until Saturday and Sunday's!

Nostalgic Quilt - in the making

My latest quilt top

Using nostalgic fabric prints of yesteryear, a country cosy cuddle look
I have used jelly roll strips for this.

The backing is going to be in this super feedsack, and I am hoping to frame the front in piece before edging in a mustard or sage floral binding from my stash.
